Nepal is available for trekking during all seasons of the year but in case of Everest base camp trek, there are various factors that one need to consider. Anyone having normal fitness can trek to Everest base camp, there are not any criteria to trek to Everest region. There are two definite trekking seasons. They are; pre-monsoon (February, March, April and May) and post-monsoon (late September, October, November and December). Another important thing that you need to consider before deciding when to trek Everest region is the activities that you are planning to do there. And also if you want to trek when the route is crowded or when there are few people on the way so that, you can enjoy yourself solely. You need to learn about the weather conditions of the Everest region in every season.
February to May is one of the most popular trekking seasons in Nepal. These are the spring months with clear, bright days. But you can still expect some rain showers occasionally. As most of the days during this season is stable & dry for trekking you should expect this period to be busier than other periods. This is also a time of the year when most Everest summit attempts occur.
June to August is the monsoon period in Nepal. By the late may, monsoon has arrived in Nepal. So, it can be said that June to August is the wettest period in Himalaya because of monsoon. Most of the foreign trekkers avoid trekking to Himalaya during this season because of the high chances of heavy rainfall, mud, leeches & lack of mountain views. Also, a landslide is a probable disturbing factor to travel.
- September- October
September to October is another one popular season for trekking in Everest region. This period provides the clearest & stable weather & as a result of that, the views of Himalayas during this season can be stunningly amazing. But this season is not the warmest time of the year, the nights get colder as you climb higher altitude. Most of the times weather is clear during this season but the storm may occur occasionally so, you should bring advisable gears in this case.
- November -January
This period from November to January can be considered as the coldest period in Nepal. Everest base camp can still trek even though the temperature is cold, weather is stable & dry. The coldness of temperature will rise as you move upward to the Himalayas. The advantage of trekking in this season is that it would be less busy than another season because of the cold weather. You can go for it if the cold doesn’t bother you.
