The highest and most adventurous marathon in the world, Mount Everest Marathon held every year from the base camp of Mt. Everest (8848m). The first successful ascent of Mt. Everest by Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on 29th May 1953, so popularly known as Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon. Not only about race, but it’s totally of having fun and experiencing the beautiful landscape, traversing through vibrant rhododendron forests, witnessing the highest mountain scenery, learning about the cultures and traditions and later on running through the spectacular homeland of Sherpa people from the Everest Base camp close beneath the dramatic Khumbu icefall.

Day 1: 19th May – Kathmandu arrival (1400m)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by one of the company representatives. You will be transferred to your hotel and a short briefing about the trek will be done in the evening. Overnight in Kathmandu hotel

Day 2: 20th May – Kathmandu city sightseeing

Beginning your day with refreshing breakfast, you will visit 4 UNESCO enlisted heritage site. The very first tour starts with a visit to the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site, Swayambhunath. Commonly known as Monkey temple, this temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha and has a unique dome-shaped structure with compassionate eyes of Buddha watching over the city. The prayer flags waving all over the area welcomes you in a very pleasant way. Kathmandu Durbar square was the dwelling set of Rana and Malla king during their reign. This palace complex has many cultural sites in its inner as well as outer courtyard. Some of the main sites include Kumari Ghar, Taleju Bhawani temple, Kal Bhairav statue and Hanuman Dhoka. Heading off to Pasupatinath you will witness devotees offering their praying to Lord Shiva. The Pashupatinath Temple situated along the holy bank of River Bagmati is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site. Observe the cremation rituals at the river bank before you make your way to another Buddhist site, Boudhanath. Replicating Swaymabhunath, Boudhanath dominates the skyline with its relatively larger structure. After enough exploration and visits, head back to the Kathmandu Hotel for overnight.

Day 3: 21st May – Flight to Lukla (2800m) and Trek to Phakding (2652m)

Today, you’ll be transferred to the airport for the flight to Lukla. Enjoy a scenic flight of 30 minutes to the gateway of the Everest region. Upon reaching meet the rest of the crew members at the Lukla airport. Then, the adventurous journey begins to Phakding walking through the colourful forests, charming villages of Sherpa people. Catch the incredible view of Kusum Kangaru before reaching Phakding. Overnight at teahouse

Day 4: 22nd May – Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Begin your day trekking towards Namche bazaar, the main trading centre of the Everest (Khumbu) region. Pass through beautiful pine forest and village cross suspension bridge that take you alongside Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi River. Then, ascend on a steep trail before arriving at Namche Bazaar, the main trading centre of the Everest (Khumbu) region. Overnight at tea house

Day 5: 23rd May – Rest day at Namche Bazaar

Here is the first day separated for the rest and acclimatization. Relax your body on this day. At the same time acquire knowledge about culture, traditions and lifestyles of Sherpa people. To acclimatize your body you will be hiking towards Everest View Hotel to observe the mesmerizing sunrise views over the Himalayas and also the glimpse of Mt. Everest. Enjoy lunch at the top where you’re surrounded by the Himalayan views. Trek back to Namche Bazaar for overnight.

Day 6: 24th May – Trek to Tengboche (3870m)

The day begins with a steep climb to Kyanguma through the pine forests then further ascend to Tengboche as the trail might be a little difficult, but the rewarding views of Mt. Everest and others glimmering peaks relief your pain and provides a charm on your face. The tree line of the Khumbu region becomes thinner as you gain more elevation. As you reached to explore the biggest monastery of the Khumbu region – Tengboche monastery. See how they pray every day and learn more about Buddhist culture. Overnight at teahouse

Day 7: 25th May – Trek to Dingboche (4410m) Duration: 5 hours

Crossing the suspension bridge over Imja River, walk past small Stupas, Chortens, Mani walls making your way to the Pangboche village, the biggest settlements of Sherpa in the region. As you walk onward from Pangboche the tree line decreases to dry and deserted area. Dingboche is commonly known as “The Summer Valley” of the Khumbu region and has Mani walls and prayer wheels lined along the village. Witness the breathtaking views of Himalayas before heading back to your cosy bed in the tea house. Overnight at tea house

Day 8: 26th May – Rest day at Dingboche

The second special day for travellers detached for rest and acclimatizing body. In this day you can explore Dingboche and also you can participate in one of the optional hikes to Chukkung valley Nangkartshang peak. Overnight at tea house

Day 9: 27th May – Trek to Lobuche(4,940m)

Head to the Lobuche early morning after breakfast followed by amazing scenery of mountains. As this adventurous day starts, you will arduous climb up passing by Chortens with the beautiful scenery of Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse etc after hiking an hour finally you reach Lobuche. Then you will do an evening yoga session. Overnight at teahouse 

Day 10: 28th May – Trek to Gorakshep (5364m) and to Everest Base Camp (5365m)

A beautiful thrilling day of this trek starts moving towards Gorakshep via Khumbu Glaciers. Enjoy lunch at Gorak Shep and then head to the base camp of the world’s highest mountain. As you are reaching your dream destination the elevation also gets higher up to (5364m). The trail is also amazing surpasses through the terrain sprinkle rocks, moraines, streams and glaciers. Finally reached the Everest Base Camp located in between of Khumbu glacier.  Enjoy your day seeing the great view of Khumbu glacier as well as Khumbu icefall. Spend your time enjoying all the views that the base camp offers. Return back to Gorakshep and stay overnight.

Day 11: 29th May – Race Day – Everest Marathon, Overnight in Namche Bazaar

The main adventurous day comes today, so wake up early and be ready for the Marathon which starts at 7:00 am. In this race, there will be full marshalling, drinks stations, medical back up and supervision. Running begins where short walks take you below near gigantic Khumbu Icefalls, there will be a short briefing with information regarding rules as well about the trails. Shortly after the first light, tale your first running steps towards Namche along the amazing icy Khumbu glacier and back to Gorakshep with a most difficult trails make your foot condition so bad and it’s painful in the whole route. Upon reaching, the well-trodden trail, it becomes easy to run and pass the Lobuche, Thugal, Dingboche and then a final descent via Hillary school and the village of Syangboche. The world’s highest race, Everest Marathon ends as you reached the Namche Bazaar, the last destination of the race where you will be awarded certificates and gifts in gratitude for taking part in this great adventure of lifetime Everest Marathon.

Day 12: 30th May – Trek to Lukla (2,642m)

Retrace the same trail and walk through forests areas. Pass along the monasteries, beautiful Sherpa villages. You will reach Lukla.  Then, you will have an evening yoga session. Overnight at teahouse 

Day 13: 31st May – Flight back to Kathmandu

Last day of the trip, early in the morning you will transfer to the airport to take a scenic flight Kathmandu. Enjoy the views of the Himalayas and the many more things that Nepal has to offer. Rest for a while and wander around the market places on your own. Enjoy a farewell dinner organized by the team’s member of Himalayan Recreation Treks & Expedition. Overnight at Kathmandu hotel

Day 14: 1st June – Departure

Your adventurous trip to Nepal concludes today! A representative of Himalayan Recreation Treks will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back to your country.
