Itinerary

Day 01:Kathmandu Drive to Syabrubesi and Trek to Bamboo

Your Langtang short trek itinerary begins early in the morning with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which is the gateway to the Langtang area. It takes around 6 hours of driving on winding mountain roads, riverside valleys, and terraced fields. You get to witness Nepal's rural life along with dramatic landscapes during the drive, with the chaos of the capital city left far behind. The ride itself is an experience in itself, with views of both rural beauty and Himalayan grandeur.

Arriving at Syabrubesi, we continue on foot, walking for about 3-4 hours to get to Bamboo (1,950 m). The trail is along the Langtang Khola, amidst thick forests of rhododendron and bamboo, with monkeys and birds accompanying us. We arrive at Bamboo and check into a simple teahouse where you can unwind, enjoy a hot meal, and prepare for the trek ahead.

  • Max Altitude:1,950m
  • Time:8-9 hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  • Transport:Jeep

Day 02:Trek from Bamboo to Langtang Village

On the second day of our 5 days itinerary, we head to Langtang village from Bamboo. The trail gradually leads us upwards today as we trek to Langtang Village. We trek along the Langtang River, deeper into the valley via oak and pine forests, before climbing steadily up through small Tamang villages and open meadows. The ascent is long but rewarding, with the thick forest giving way to clearer skies and the first snow-capped peak views.

En route, prayer wheels, mani walls, and Buddhist chortens greet us, offering an insight into the region's cultural richness. After about 5-6 hours of walking, we reach Langtang Village at 3,450 m, a culturally rich village. Rebuilt since the earthquake in 2015, the village now stands tall as a proud testament to resilience. With mountains and tradition surrounding us, we spend the night at a local teahouse.

  • Max Altitude:3,450m
  • Time:5-6 hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 03:Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) and Hike to Kyanjin Viewpoint, and Return to Ghodatabela

This is a big day for us, as we will be reaching the highest point of our trek today. We trek for about 3 hours to Kyanjin Gompa, a highlight of the trip, after breakfast. The trail opens up into more open pastures and yak grazing lands, with the mountains getting closer and closer. It is a unique experience to reach Kyanjin Gompa, this small monastery settlement is tucked under the massive Langtang Lirung and other Himalayan giants, with fluttering prayer flags and a calm spiritual energy.

After lunch, we trek to Kyanjin Viewpoint for panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Yala Peak. The ascent is steep but unbelievably rewarding with stunning Himalayan views. It takes us around 2-3 hours to reach the top, and after this trip, we retrace our steps down the valley and trek to Ghodatabela (2,920 m), where we stay overnight. The downhill walk is refreshing, and the evening in Ghodatabela is a quiet conclusion to a satisfying day.

  • Max Altitude:2,920m
  • Time:8-9 hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 04:Trek from Ghodatabela to Syabrubesi

Today, we begin our descent trek, descending from Ghodatabela to Syabrubesi. We follow familiar paths through bamboo and rhododendron forests along the Langtang Khola. The downhill trek is easier and gives us more time to absorb the finer aspects of nature and village life that perhaps we did not catch on our ascent.

After 7 hours of steady walking, we are back in Syabrubesi, where the trek began. The lower altitude welcomes us to warmer air and easier walking. Tonight, you can celebrate the successful completion of your Langtang Valley adventure with a good meal and a comfortable night in a local teahouse.

  • Max Altitude:1,540m
  • Time:6-7 hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 05:Drive Back to Kathmandu

This is the final day of your 5 days Langtang Valley short trek itinerary as you make your way to Kathmandu. In the morning, we drive back to Kathmandu by the same scenic mountain highways and river valleys. The 7 hour trip brings you back to the rhythm of city life after days of pure nature and cultural experience.

By the time you get to Kathmandu, you'll be taking with you not just pictures but also the unforgettable memories of your short trek to the Langtang Valley, the mountains, culture, and hospitality of the people. When is the Best Time for the 5 Days Langtang Valley Trek?

The best seasons for the 5 days Langtang Valley Trek are Spring (March-May), which is one of the best seasons to trek, with good weather, rhododendron flowers, and pleasant temperatures. The weather is calm, and the mountain views are breathtaking during this time of the year.

Another best season is autumn with dry weather, crystal-clear views of mountains, and moderate temperatures. This is also the peak trekking season due to excellent visibility and pleasant weather.

Winter trekking is also possible but can be challenging due to cold and heavy snowfall at the high altitudes. Summer/monsoon (June-August) is the least traveled time because of the heavy rain, landslides, and leeches on trekking trails. Thus, we recommend you embark on the trek in spring or autumn, given its favorable weather and trail.

What are the accommodations on the 5 Days short trek package?

Accommodation on the short Langtang Valley 5-day trek  is at local teahouses, which have plain but comfortable rooms. The rooms are twin-sharing with blankets, but a sleeping bag is recommended for extra comfort.

Shared toilets with squat or Western-style toilets can be seen in most teahouses. There are hot showers at an extra price available in most villages at lower elevations, but above, you might have to settle for bucket showers with heated water.

Electricity is available in most teahouses to charge batteries, but this might be at an extra price. Further, do not expect a Wi-Fi connection at higher altitudes.

What kind of food is available on the Langtang short trek in Nepal?

You will be having food at the teahouses in the Langtang Valley Short Trek. Our package includes 3 meals a day from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The teahouses serve simple yet delicious food.

In the lower altitudes like Syabrubesi, there are more options for food, from Western dishes to Nepali. As you hike to higher altitudes, the staple diet includes dal bhat (rice and lentils), Tibetan bread, noodles, soups, and vegetables, depending on the season, for both lunch and dinner.

For breakfast, you can get eggs, porridge, Tibetan bread, and soup. You will also have tea after each meal.

What drinking water facilities are available on the 5 days trek?

Drinking water is available at teahouses and natural springs along the trail of the Langtang Valley short trek. It is, nonetheless, important to purify the water before drinking. You can either use purification tablets, a filter water bottle, or have boiled water to avoid waterborne illnesses.

Boiled water is available in all the teahouses for an extra cost. Bottled water can be purchased at teahouses, but it is not recommended for ecological purposes.

How difficult is the Langtang short trek in Nepal?

Langtang Valley 5 Days Trek is a moderate trek, which means it does not have any technical ascents but does include long daily hikes and comparatively steep ascents.

There is no prerequisite for trekking experience, but it is always beneficial to have some experience. If you have some more time on your schedule and want to take it slow, then you can check out the Langtang Valley trek that takes you around the region at a slower pace.

What is altitude sickness, and how do I prevent it during the Langtang Valley Short Trek?

Altitude sickness occurs when your body struggles to adjust to the increasing altitude. This could be a problem on any high-altitude trek that takes you above 4000 m. The 5 Days Langtang Valley Trek is no exception.

Common symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath. However, with proper precaution and guidance from your professional guide, it can be prevented.

Strengthen your legs and core to handle uphill climbs and rugged trails. Mental preparation is also required, as the trail passes through deserted forests and small villages with limited modern amenities. Also, familiarize yourself with high-altitude trekking basics, such as recognizing early signs of altitude sickness.

What trekking permits are required for the 5 Days trek to Langtang Valley?

To enter Langtang National Park, all trekkers require a TIMS card (Trekkers' Information Management System) and a park entry permit. We, Himalayan Recreation, arrange all permits, so your trip is hassle-free.
