Day 02:Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani (1860m)

You will begin your trekking journey into the hills with a scenic but long drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani. The road winds through lush countryside, terraced fields, and villages that offer a glimpse of the more leisurely pace of life outside the capital. As we wind along the Prithvi Highway and through the Marsyangdi Valley, the great Himalayas slowly come into view above the clouds and mist.

The road soon narrows down to rough mountain trails, giving you a real taste of what life will be like while trekking. We arrive in Dharapani after 7-8 hours of riding, and once here, you can relax in a cozy teahouse.

  • Max Altitude:1860m
  • Time:7-8 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  • Transport:Local Bus/Share Jeep

Day 03:Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2610m)

We officially begin on the hike today, following the Marsyangdi River through fragrant pine forests and highland villages. Steadily climbing, the view gets better, with waterfalls cascading off sheer cliffs and snowy summits peeking through the trees.

After several hours of walking, we reach Chame, which is the district headquarters, where the village opens up to offer spectacular views of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II. The climate here is cooler and fresher, and the surroundings are more developed, giving you the ambiance of the countryside with the amenities.

  • Max Altitude:2610m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 04:Trek from Chame to Upper Pisang (3300m)

The trek on the fourth day of our itinerary narrows down and begins to climb more steeply as we move deeper into the inner Annapurna. We must cross several suspension bridges over deep gorges below us, offering spectacular views and a thrill of adrenaline. When the valley widens, the vista is changed, giant rock walls tower over us, and alpine flowers begin to define the landscape.

We reach Upper Pisang, a scenic village that lies on a ridge and provides stunning vistas of Annapurna II and other mountains in the surrounding area. The serene quietness here is perfect for reflection, photography, and deep breaths of that clean Himalayan air. Old monasteries and stone buildings provide Upper Pisang with a truly authentic experience of a mountain village.

  • Max Altitude:3300m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 05:Trek from Upper Pisang to Manang (3540m)

On the fifth day of our 16 days Annapurna circuit trek with Tilicho Lake itinerary, we hike on a high trail above Ghyaru and Ngawal, two ancient villages with stunning vistas of the Annapurna range and Marsyangdi Valley. It is a tougher route but offers a richer experience, both visually and culturally. The centuries-old Buddhist chortens and prayer flags fluttering in the wind give the trail sanctity and vibrancy.

Our destination is Manang, the cultural and logistical hub of the region. It's a vibrant town full of traditional Tibetan-style homes, bakeries, and teahouses. The town also provides an opportunity to engage with the local Gurung and Tibetan people and gain insight into life in the high Himalayas.

  • Max Altitude:3540m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 06:Acclimatization Day at Manang (3540m)

Today we have a scheduled day of acclimatization in Manang, resting our bodies and acclimatizing to thinner air. Resting, however, does not translate to idleness. We can take an easy walk to Gangapurna Lake or the viewpoint at Bhojo Gumba, both offering simply breathtaking views of glaciers and surrounding peaks. These small walks boost our circulation and help with altitude adjustment.

Manang village is as satisfying as the surrounding landscape. You can sift through the monasteries, visit the Himalayan Rescue Association altitude information center, or simply relax at a teahouse with yak cheese freshly made this morning and locally produced apple pie. This day sets us up nicely for the strenuous days ahead, especially as we near Tilicho Lake.

  • Max Altitude:3540m
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 07:Trek from Manang to Siri Kharka (4060m)

We leave the Annapurna Circuit trail behind today and head west to the beautiful Tilicho Lake. Today's trek to Siri Kharka is a sure change of scenery, with less vegetation, sharper cliffs, and unadorned alpine scenery. The trek is moderately strenuous, with occasional patches of landslide that require care, but the landscape opens up with breathtaking views of Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak.

By the time we reach Siri Kharka, the height and remoteness give an otherworldly gloss to the landscape. Amongst the giant hills and stillness, the teahouses here are modest but warm and welcoming. This far-flung stopover is crucial for acclimatization and resting before we go even deeper.

  • Max Altitude:4060m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 08:Trek from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp (4150m)

On our eighth day of the itinerary, we walk to Tilicho Base Camp further into the high Himalaya on a steep, narrow path carved into mountain slopes. The distance is not very far, but the trek is stunning, winding way up above river gorges and sensitive landslide zones, which need careful watching and care. But the reward is well worth it: vertical walls of cliffs draped in snow and ice and the sense of being in one of the world's remotest places.

We arrive at Tilicho Base Camp with nearby giant peaks and complete quietness except for the occasional Himalayan bird sounds from the distance. The lodging is basic, but the experience is electrifying. We sleep while preparing ourselves mentally and physically for tomorrow's exciting trek to the world's highest lake.

  • Max Altitude:4150m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 09:Hike to Tilicho Lake (4919m) and return to Siri Kharka

Finally, today is one of the highlight days of your 16 days Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek. We set out early for the demanding trek to Tilicho Lake, a peaceful alpine gem sparkling below the towering Tilicho Peak. As you climb higher, the air gets thinner, and the landscape changes. Finally reaching the lake at 4,919 meters, we’re rewarded with a view so surreal it feels like another planet, icy waters reflecting towering snow giants under a deep blue sky.

Following this immersion in the magic and a catch of the moment, we climb carefully back up to Siri Kharka. The downward trail allows us to take in the spectacular scenery with little bodily effort, though care is needed. It is a long, tiring day, but one of the greatest rewards of the trek, a highlight of the Annapurna with Tilicho Lake Trek.

  • Max Altitude:4060m
  • Time:8-9 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 10:Hike from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka (4050m)

From here on, we follow the route to the high pass. We hike back down towards Khangsar and on to Yak Kharka. The route winds through alpine terrain, crossing rivers and ridges of less than a foot in width. Some of the surroundings change once more to create fantastic open vistas of Chulu summits and upper yak grazing pastures that give this spot its name, Yak Kharka, or "Yak Meadow."

The altitude is still high, so we go slowly and cautiously. At this point, our bodies have acclimatized to the elevation, but it is still a good idea to ease up. Yak Kharka is a peaceful spot, ideal for resting before the big adventure that lies ahead of crossing Thorong La Pass.

  • Max Altitude:4050m
  • Time:5-7 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 11:Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4450m)

Today, we hike further up towards the foot of the daunting Thorong La Pass. The trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi is an easy climb with boulder-filled trails and scattered herds of blue sheep grazing on barren slopes. Even though the trek is short, rising altitude makes it appear more strenuous, and therefore, we ascend slowly and hydrate well.

Thorong Phedi, or "Base Camp," is a rustic camp set in overhanging cliffs. It's the final base before the pass, and excitement here is tangible with anticipation. We rest early today, recheck our gear, and prepare ourselves for the earliest and most difficult start of the trek.

  • Max Altitude:4450m
  • Time:3-4 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 12:Cross Thorong La Pass (5416m) and trek to Muktinath (3760m)

This is the toughest and most thrilling day of the 16 days Annapurna with Tilicho Lake trekking itinerary. We depart early in the morning to experience the most exciting and intimidating Thorong La Pass at an elevation of 5,416 meters, the Annapurna Circuit's highest point. We have to set out early to avoid the fierce winds, and climbing in the starry night, the path slowly comes alive as dawn rises over the snow-covered mountains. The climb is tough, but with each step, you are closer to one of Nepal's greatest victories.

Reaching the pass is an unearthly, emotional experience. Prayer flags flail wildly, and widescreen vistas unfold in all directions, from the Annapurnas to the Dhaulagiri range. We begin our long descent to Muktinath, a religious pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists alike, after absorbing it all. The village offers comfort, warmth, and spirituality after a day of intensity.

  • Max Altitude:3760m
  • Time:11-12 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 13:Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2720m)

After a peaceful morning break at the sacred temple of Muktinath, where hundreds of fluttering prayer flags dance in the mountain breeze, we begin our walk down to Jomsom. Today's trek offers a stunning contrast to the green valleys we have so far trekked through. We cross centuries-old villages like Jharkot and Kagbeni along the route, whose spiritual heritage is made up of centuries-old monasteries and chortens.

The afternoon winds are generally more forceful, so we need to make an early start so we can arrive at Jomsom in a relaxed manner. This vibrant town is set along the Kali Gandaki River and is famous for its apple plantations and locally distilled apple brandy. We check into our teahouse and can then roam around Jomsom's narrow streets or just relax and reflect on how far we've come on this incredible Annapurna Circuit Tilicho Lake Trek.

  • Max Altitude:2720m
  • Time:5-6 hrs
  • Accommodation:Tea House Lodge
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 14:Jomsom to Pokhara by flight (822m)

We are around the end of our 16 days itinerary, and today we take a short but utterly breathtaking flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, flying over the world's deepest gorge with the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna snow giants towering on either side. The 20-minute ride gives one a final stunning bird's-eye view of the Himalayas before descending into the green, verdant splendor of the Pokhara Valley.

When you arrive at Pokhara, you will immediately sense the dramatic change in landscape and weather. The lakeside town is ideal for unwinding after nearly two weeks of trekking. You can stroll around Phewa Lake, enjoy a lovely meal in one of the cozy cafes, or visit the local attractions such as the Peace Pagoda or Davis Falls.

  • Max Altitude:822m
  • Time:20 Min
  • Accommodation:3 Star Hotel
  • Meals:Breakfast & Lunch
  • Transport:Flight

Day 15:Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1350m)

On this day, you will leave the serene countryside of Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu through a scenic drive on the Prithvi Highway. The road passes through river valleys, hillside terraces, and vibrant rural villages, giving one final glimpse of Nepal's diverse countryside. Depending on road conditions, the journey should take 6–8 hours, leaving enough time to reflect on the adventure and encounters of your Annapurna Circuit Tilicho Lake Trek.

The moment you are back in Kathmandu, you can spend your night relaxing or sightseeing. Perhaps do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs in Thamel, eat dinner at a rooftop restaurant and see the panoramic view of the city, or simply relax at your hotel.

As you hit the trail, throughout the Annapurna Circuit Trek linking Tilicho Lake, we arrange the accommodation in teahouses and mountain lodges run by local families. These accommodations offer basic comforts, such as twin-sharing rooms with blankets, electricity, and sometimes Wi-Fi.

Bathrooms are mostly shared, and hot showers are available in some locations for an extra cost. The dining area is also common in these lodges, which offers you the opportunity to chat with other fellow travelers.

All the accommodation is included in our Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek package, and you do not have to worry about the logistical things.

What is the food like on the Annapurna Circuit Tilicho Lake Trek?

Three meals a day are included in our Annapurna with Tilicho Lake trekking package. Making sure you are well fed and have enough energy to hike, we arrange rich and diverse meals that consist of Nepali dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), noodles, fried rice, soups, pastas, and momos for lunch and dinner.

Breakfasts often feature porridge, eggs, bread, and tea or coffee. As you ascend, the food options get limited and are simpler compared to those at lower elevations. We highly recommend you to bring some of your favorite snacks to munch on throughout the trail.
