Our Manaslu Short Trek is a shorter option for the classic Manaslu Circuit Trek package with a 10-day itinerary that takes you through the raw and breathtaking landscapes of the Manaslu region.

This is a journey that traverses diverse landscapes from subtropical rainforests to high-altitude glaciers with adventure, culture, and magnificent scenery. The 10 days Manaslu Short Trek is also a great alternative to other popular trails where you might be hesitating to go because of the crowds.

Starting with a drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, your journey takes you through Tibetan villages inside the Manaslu Conservation Area, ultimately leading you to the Larkya La Pass at 5106 m.

From the pass, you then descend to transition from the Manaslu conservation area to the Annapurna conservation area, making your way to Pokhara or Kathmandu. You also have the option of extending your trip to Tsum Valley, another gem of the region, if you have more time.

You get to explore the Tibetan culture-dominated villages and have a glimpse of extremely old traditions and ways of life throughout the journey of the Manaslu Short Trek.

Comparatively more challenging than other short trekking routes of Nepal, the Short Manaslu Trek is most suitable for experienced trekkers. But don’t worry much if you are a beginner; if you have good physical fitness, with some preparation, you will be able to complete this trip.

Aside from the landscapes, the trek is also a very cultural and spiritual experience, as you will be passing through Tibetan-influenced villages and traditional monasteries that speak of the region's traditions.

Thanks to its moderate to challenging level of difficulty, the trek is perfect for active trekkers who seek an adrenaline-packed experience but do not require months of training, offering the ideal combination of thrill and comfort.

Do you want a group or a private trek, or want to customize it?

The next thing to consider for this short adventurous trip is whether you want a group trek or a private trek. Joining a group trek is an excellent way if you want to connect with other trekkers from around the world while also reducing the cost of the trip, as you will be sharing the guide charge.

However, if you wish to keep your trek low-key and just want to vibe alone, then a private trek can be the best choice for you. Apart from the two options, customizing your itinerary is the best way to make the trek entirely yours in the way you want it. Although the package is 10 days, you can always customize it in the way you wish.

We have seen that trekkers usually prefer adding extra days to explore side trails and monasteries or even doing it with the Annapurna Circuit. Whatever your preference is, we are here to turn it into reality.

Itinerary

Day 01:Kathmandu to Machha Khola (900m)

Your Manaslu Short Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu. Leaving behind the city noise and chaos, you soon find yourself amidst Nepal's countryside, where green hillsides, terraced fields, and rural villages are the prevailing landscape. The drive follows the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki Rivers, with beautiful views of raging rapids and green valleys leading you to Machha Khola.

The drive is a mix of smooth road and rough off-road, a real taste of rural Nepal. You'll pass through tiny villages where life moves at its own pace, with farmers tending fields, children waving from the roadside, and vendors selling local fruits. You'll arrive in the late afternoon at Machha Khola, a quiet riverside village surrounded by green hills. This will be your overnight stay, where you rest and get ready for the trekking adventure to come.

  • Max Altitude:900m
  • Time:7-8 hours Drive
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 02:Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat (1,340m)

Today marks the beginning of your actual walking adventure. Following the Budhi Gandaki River, we’ll trek along a trail that winds through dense forests, crosses suspension bridges, and passes quaint villages like Khorlabesi and Tatopani, famous for their natural hot springs.

The trail has its ups and downs, with rocky paths and narrow canyons that make the journey both thrilling and scenic. The higher you climb, the more the subtropical forest slowly gives place to terraced fields and picturesque Gurung villages. Arriving at Jagat, you'll be immediately impressed by the richness of the culture here, stone-paved streets, traditional houses, and prayer flags waving in the breeze.

  • Max Altitude:1,340m
  • Time:6 to 7 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 03:Trek from Jagat to Deng (1,860m)

Today's trek continues to take us deeper into the Budhi Gandaki Valley. We'll tread on stony trails, walk alongside tumbling waterfalls, and cross suspension bridges that connect small, picturesque villages. The villages of Sirdibas and Philim show a clear Tibetan influence, both in construction style and lifestyle.

The trail narrows as we climb up through pine and rhododendron forests, and you'll catch teasing glimpses of Shringi Himal in the distance. The trek is a mix of culture and nature, and by evening we'll arrive at Deng, a beautiful Himalayan village where you'll experience true mountain hospitality.

  • Max Altitude:1,860m
  • Time:6 to 7 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 04:Trek from Deng to Namrung (2,630m)

On the fourth day of our 10 days itinerary, we will make our way to Namrung from Deng. This day's trek takes you further into the alpine world. Leaving Deng, we'll trek paths lined with prayer wheels, mani walls, and fluttering prayer flags, clear reminders of the Tibetan Buddhist culture that defines the Manaslu Circuit Short Trek.

We pass through Ghap village, where we trek amidst individuals who continue to follow centuries-old traditions, and you may hear the local people speaking Tibetan. The ascent to Namrung is steep but is worth the trouble. You can have panoramic views of Ganesh Himal and Himal Chuli from here. Namrung itself is a sleepy town of stone houses and teahouses, offering warmth and comfort in the midst of a land of giant peaks.

  • Max Altitude:2,630m
  • Time:6 to 7 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 05:Trek from Namrung to Samagaun (3,520m)

This is one of the most scenic days of the trek, as we make our way to Samagaun, the largest village in the region. The trail effortlessly contours the rolling high-altitude pastures, passing by traditional villages like Lihi and Lho, where you have your first good views of Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m).

As we ascend, the landscape shifts to frozen streams and cascades and snow-capped summits lining the horizon. We arrive in Samagaun after 6-7 hours of walking, and by the time we reach Samagaun, you'll be welcomed by the stone dwellings and vibrant cultural life of this Tibet-influenced village.

  • Max Altitude:3,520m
  • Time:6 to 7 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 06:Hike from Samagaun to Samdo (3,875m)

Now, slowly, we make our way to higher altitudes with short walking hours but challenging terrain. We walk along open valleys where you can see yaks grazing and, if lucky, blue sheep on the cliffs. As we go higher, with each step, the air becomes thinner and the peaks get closer, wrapping you in a snow-capped amphitheater.

By midday, we’ll arrive at Samdo, the last major settlement before Larkya La Pass. This village sits dramatically close to the Tibetan border, and its culture, lifestyle, and architecture reflect Tibetan traditions. We’ll stay overnight here, preparing for the higher sections of the trek.

  • Max Altitude:3,875m
  • Time:5 to 6 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 07:Trek from Samdo to Dharmashala (4,460m)

We'll continue the journey today with a steady ascent to Dharmashala (Larkya Phedi), the high camp before the Larkya La Pass. The trek is short and consistent, enabling you to relax and save energy for the toughest day ahead.

At this height, the scenery is rugged but spectacular, with huge peaks, vast open valleys, and sun-kissed glaciers. The trail today is short yet challenging, given the increasing altitude. The teahouse is simple but cozy here, providing the perfect refuge before your ultimate challenge tomorrow.

  • Max Altitude:4,460m
  • Time:4 to 5 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 08:Trek from Dharmashala to Bhimthang (3,720m) via Larkya La Pass (5,160m)

This is the most challenging yet rewarding day of your entire Manaslu Short Trek schedule. We'll start early, walking across icy trails and rock faces to Larkya La Pass (5,160 m). The final climb to the summit is steep and tough on the lungs due to the altitude, but when you finally reach the prayer-flag-adorned pass, you'll be swept away by the breathtaking views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II.

Standing at the pass, surrounded by towering peaks, is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. After celebrating your achievement, we’ll begin the long descent to Bhimthang, a picturesque valley where you’ll spend the night. The descent is easier on the lungs but certainly hard on our legs, but the sense of accomplishment today is unmatched; you’ve conquered one of the most beautiful passes in the Himalayas.

  • Max Altitude:3,720m
  • Time:9 to 10 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 09:Trek from Bhimthang to Tilche (2,300m)

The walk today is easier as you descend through thick forests of rhododendron, alpine meadows, and trails along riverbanks. The scenery is a pleasant change after days of walking at high altitude. You'll pass by waterfalls and cross suspension bridges, so it's a nice final trekking day.

Arriving at Tilche, a lovely Gurung village, you can now relax and look back upon your experience. The people's hospitality, as well as the peacefulness of the village, make it a perfect end to your trekking experience.

  • Max Altitude:2,300m
  • Time:6 to 7 Hours
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 10:Tilche to Kathmandu or Pokhara Drive

Our last day begins with a scenic drive along winding mountain roads to return to civilization. According to your preference, we can either drive to Kathmandu or the lakeside resort of Pokhara.

You will leave with not just pictures but incredible memories of the 10-day Manaslu trek, a trek with outstanding scenery, fascinating cultural experiences, and the unmatched thrill of crossing one of Nepal's most renowned high passes.

  • Max Altitude:1350m
  • Time:7-8 hours Drive
  • Meals:Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Know Before You Go

How to Reach the Manaslu Region?

Your trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, the starting point of the Manaslu trek. It is a 7–8-hour journey, up and down twisting roads over streams, rice fields, and ridges.

Contrary to some trekking regions where one has to fly, the Manaslu trail is all-road-accessible, which is cost-effective as well as reliable. Before we even reach the starting point of the trek, you will already be immersed in the pristine beauty of the region.

Similarly, once you cross the pass and reach Tiliche, you will have a drive to Kathmandu or Pokhara. All the ground transfers are included in all of our Manaslu Short Trek packages, so you don't have to worry about arranging transport.

When is the best time to do the Short Manaslu Trek?

Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the ideal seasons for the Manaslu Short Trek. These seasons provide the most desirable weather, clear conditions, and excellent peak visibility of mountains such as Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and the Annapurna ranges.

Autumn is the best season, with pleasant mountain vistas and festive ambiance in Nepal, and spring is with breathtaking views of nature with flowering rhododendrons, green canopies, and lively wildlife sightings on the trail.

Though technically possible to trek in winter (December–February) or monsoon (June–August), conditions are more challenging. Winter has heavy snowfall and below-zero nights, while the monsoon has slippery trails, landslides, and leech-covered trails.

For the best experience, we recommend that you book your Manaslu Circuit Short Trek in autumn or spring. Check out our available 2026/2027 departures and book your preferred dates in advance.

Accommodation on the 10-Day Trek

The Manaslu Short Trek tour features overnight stays in basic mountain teahouses along the trail. These are small but warm lodges owned by local families, providing opportunities to enjoy traditional Himalayan hospitality.

Twin-sharing rooms are usually provided, but in some areas, you have triple-sharing rooms depending on group size. All the rooms are supplied with a bed, pillow, mattress, and warm blankets. Extra blankets can be provided at an additional cost, but we recommend always taking your sleeping bag for added warmth.

The higher up you go, the more basic the facilities. While lower-altitude teahouses offer hot showers, attached bathrooms, or laundry service, these are extra costs and become rare in remote areas. There is a wifi connection and a network till Samagaun, but after that, all you will have is the spectacular sight of the mountains.

Food and Drinking Water on the Trek

Three meals a day (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included in your Manaslu Short Trek package, which are served in local family-run teahouses along the trek.

Dal Bhat (lentils, rice, and curry), warm and fresh vegetables, soups, fried rice, and noodles are the common options you can get for lunch and dinner. While options are fewer compared to other popular trails, the food is healthy and adequate for high Himalayan trekking. For breakfast, you can get porridge, Tibetan bread, bread, soup, oats, and tea or coffee. You will also be served tea after each meal.

For drinking water, you can refill bottles from teahouses or natural springs. Since the source is not treated, we highly recommend taking purification tablets or portable filters as a precautionary measure. Staying well-fed and well-hydrated throughout the trek ensures that you have a pleasant and safe experience.

How Difficult Is the Manaslu Circuit Short Trek?

The Manaslu Short Trek is rated challenging and is suited for active trekkers wishing to experience the real Himalaya without months of pre-expedition preparation. The challenge is mostly due to the high altitude (high point 5,160 m at Larkya La Pass), steep climbs and descents, and unpredictable mountain weather.

Even for fit trekkers, acclimatization to the thin air can take its toll, and altitude sickness is always a risk. The path involves rugged terrains, suspension bridges, cobblestone paths, and remote villages, which demand physical stamina as well as mental resilience.

Frosty nights, gusty winds, and sudden weather changes create an additional level of hardship. However, with proper physical training, acclimatization days, and our experienced local guides, the trek is very much possible for most trekkers.

What is altitude sickness, and how can we prevent it?

The 10 days Manaslu short trek takes you quite high in altitude, with the max being 5160 m at Larkya Pass, which can pose the threat of altitude sickness. Altitude sickness occurs when your body is not able to adjust to a higher altitude.

Altitude sickness can be an issue at high elevations, and to make sure you are safe, you have to first be aware of its symptoms and the ways to prevent it. Headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue are some of the symptoms of altitude sickness.

To prevent this, trekking gradually, hydrating well, and undergoing acclimatization are some ways. As our package already has an acclimatization day, you do not have to worry about it. You just have to make sure to walk at your own pace, hydrate well, and let your guide know if you face any of the symptoms, even if they are mild.

How to Prepare for the Trek?

The Manaslu Short Trek may be a shorter version of the full circuit, but it remains a trek with long walking days, high-altitude passes, and difficult terrain.

Preparations should begin by increasing your endurance and stamina at least 3-4 weeks before the trek. Cardio activities like jogging, swimming, cycling, or climbing stairs are highly recommended. Leg and core strength exercises will also make uphill and downhill walks easier.

No less crucial is mental preparedness; this trek takes you along solitary villages and high passes where routes are treacherous. Being open-minded, culturally respectful, and willing to adapt makes your journey worthwhile. No trekking experience is required, but being moderately fit will make you enjoy every step of this Himalayan experience.

Smart packing is necessary for this trek since the region is far-flung and there are few facilities. The following is a list of what to bring along:
