  • Some ways to deal with altitude sickness are:

    • Acclimatize properly by taking rest days.
    • Gradually ascend and use the "climb high, sleep low" principle.
    • Stay hydrated and do not drink alcohol.
  • You will need the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card. These permits are all included in our package.

  • Yes, previous trekking experience is recommended, as Ganja La Pass (5,130m) is a technical high-altitude pass. You should be okay with long days of walking, steep ups and downs for the trek.

  • Some difficulties in crossing Ganja La pass can be:

    • Steep up and down, climb on snow and ice.
    • No teahouses between Nyengang Kharka and Keldang, requiring camping gear.
    • Unmarked trails make it difficult to navigate in inclement weather.
  • Travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking (above 5,000 m), helicopter rescue, and medical rescue is crucial.

  • You should be physically fit with experience of long hikes. Cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, and acclimatization to heights are necessary. Pre-trek training should consist of hiking, stair climbing, and endurance workouts.

  • There are no ATMs after Kathmandu on the trail. Thus, make sure to withdraw enough cash in Kathmandu for the expenses during the trek.

  • The weather condition depends on which season you choose to trek. In spring, the weather conditions will be comfortable temperatures with blooming rhododendrons and clear skies. In autumn (September-November), you will find good weather and excellent visibility. Winter is cold, with heavy snowfall blocking Ganja La Pass. And the monsoon has heavy rainfalls, landslides, and leeches.

  • Wi-Fi is available in Syabrubesi, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa for a fee, but it is slow and unreliable. There is no internet connection beyond Kyanjin Gompa, especially while passing Ganja La Pass.

  • Yes, charging is possible at teahouses for an additional fee (NPR 200-500 per hour). A solar charger or power bank is recommended, as electricity may be limited.

    • Dress conservatively when going to monasteries.
    • Ask permission before taking photos of locals.
    • Do not walk over religious objects.
  • While Langtang Valley may be trekked independently, crossing Ganja La Pass without a guide is extremely dangerous, especially due to navigation problems and the risk of avalanches. It is most advisable to obtain a licensed trekking guide.

  • Yes, helicopter rescues are available but very expensive (around $5,000-$7,000). That is why high-altitude travel insurance with emergency evacuation is mandatory.

  • Yes, you can rent or buy trekking gear in Thamel, Kathmandu. Shops offer jackets, sleeping bags, trekking poles, and crampons at affordable rates.

  • The major languages spoken are Nepali and Tamang. Some basic English is understood in larger villages and teahouses. It would be helpful to know some basic Nepali words.

Know Before You Go
