  • rating starAnnapurna Circuit Trek - Yes, hire a guide...

I had planned on doing the Annapurna Circuit solo when I first arrived to Kathmandu and refused to hire a sherpa to carry my backpack. After all I live in Golden, CO where the mountain are big, I’m quite active and used to high altitude. The hotel I stayed at in Kathmandu convinced me to hire a guide and I’m glad I did. Bishnu Thapa was a blessing. He knows the people and tea houses quite well and has such a charming and calming personality. Hiking in Nepal is quite different than Colorado. In Colorado we hike mountains on trails that gradually ascend the mountain which is far less work than in Nepal where the people hike straight up the mountain. We didn’t go very far the first day however the second day we climbed and climbed for if I remember correctly 6 or 7 hours to Poon Hill. There were moments when I wondered why in the world anybody would hike straight up the mountain and felt like turning back. Bishnu encouraged me to keep going and I’m glad I did. It was so beautiful He not only encouraged me to keep going he moved along at my pace. Once I got past the second day I wanted to go for longer periods of time each day than was in the original plan. Having a companion to hike with who is knowledgeable about the culture was a great decision. Thanks Bishnu! I was there in November 2013 and will return.

  • rating starTrekking - Manaslu Circuit

I completed a 13 day trek on the Manaslu Circuit with 3 friends. Our guide Raju and porters Bhim & Ramsharan were heaven sent. This was my first trek and I was the slowest of the group. The guiding & porters team accommodated and cared for the 4 of us with great joy, wisdom, and compassion. My 3 friends were well versed in mountain trekking and were treated with great trust and freedom - they were accompanied by either one or both of our porters. As I needed more care, our guide, Raju walked with or near me the entire time. He also gave me a lot of space to navigate at my own pace. On the back end of the trek, Bhim, one of our porters, walked with Raju and I too. They were both consummately kind and helpful. Bhim never failed to gently remind me to go slowly, and that it was OK to go slowly, “Go slowly, Sonya, it’s OK. Napali walking very dangerous.” The trek was hard. We peaked at 5106 meters. This was an adventure of a lifetime. It was hard and I was successful. I’ve been bitten by the trekking bug and I absolutely love the Himalayas. Thank you Himalayan Recreation for making the trip safe, fun and memorable.

My first visit to Nepal was a life time experience. Bishnu Thapa from Himalayan Recreation was a reason why that experience was the best possible. He made sure our 4 day trek was all taken care and we did not have to worry about absolutely anything. Our guide for the trip Ashok was the best guide became part of the group within a day and treated us like life long friends rather than customers yet stayed professional at all times making sure we got everything we need. I will come back to Nepal some day and Himalayan Recreation will be company I will hire for next expedition.

  • rating starManaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek - 20 Days -Perfect Adventure Journey just does it with Himalayan Recreation!!

My 3 friends and I trekked with Himalayan Recreation in February of 2017. Manaslu trekking has long been a dream vacation of mine having seen friends pictures years ago of their trek to Manaslu and others beautiful parts of Nepal. After careful consideration and with MUCH help from Bishnu in the Kathmandu office, we settled on Manaslu. And my friends and I glad that we did. The scenery and people were amazing!!! What a phenomenal experience in all ways - the highlight of our recent Asia trip in my opinion. Love the Nepalese people - warm, caring and loving. And it all started with Bishnu in the head office. I probably sent him 150-200 emails in a preparation for this trip and he never failed to answer all my questions and calm any concerns I might have. He was amazing and invaluable! A fantastic guy who was not just concerned about our money but about our safety! A wonderful man who called the hotel that I and my friends were staying at to see how they made out as I ascended higher. From there we had the opportunity to meet our Guide and Porters. I cannot say enough good things about these men. Suman, our trekking guide is the type of guy you could trust with your life. He is very knowledgeable, caring (safety first) and fun loving. He was like a brother to me by trek's end. We had a hard time saying goodbye to him when we departed Nepal. Vim, one of our porters, was as strong as a tiger and as loving as a grandfather type. Both of these guys were my soul mates, attending to any needs I might have and providing advice and companionship along the way. I can't say enough good things about them. They really looked after my friends, especially when Simon got a Knee problem got down from Larky la Pass. They showed genuine concern for us really bonded with them both. They became like members of my family.

  • rating starTroubling but Unforgettably AMAZING trip (love the Tour Guide and local Porters)

At first, my journey faced hiccups as bad weather condition the flight couldn't take off, 3 days delays, we decided to switch plan to jeep off-road experience. Rainy, slippery, waterfall edges, landslides, all lead to the challenging but most excited journey. Believe me this lifetime adventure was awesome.

After all, the nature served us with the most breathtaking view of snowy mountain, vast valley and gorgeous landscape. Word couldn't be enough to express how much we appreciated the local guide (Raju Sim Khada) and porter team who did unconditionally assist our group throughout every steps.

This was the best trip ever to all of us. Highly recommend anyone to go and enjoy every breath with nature alongside.

Note: recommend to reserve tour directly with Himalayan Recreation to have the best services.

  • rating starAmazing experience to ABC

Santosh and Rash are amazing tour guides, very supportive from day 1, always listen carefully to our requests and make sure to deliver the best solution and service to us. I appreciate their dedicated work and professional experience. Our porters are super lovely and kind as well, I love them all and every moment on the trek. After a week spent together we feel like family and friends now.

My recommendation for the company is that the tour could adjust the schedule a bit due to physical conditions of each group. For my team it would be better if it is 4 days up - 2 days down instead of what we did 3 days up - 3 days down. Going up is tougher so it would be easier for people to adjust to intensive climb, also it felt a bit rush on the 1st 3 days to keep up with the schedule (we trek 7-8 hours a day) and didn’t have much time to enjoy the tea houses and surrounding areas.

Also make sure to train yourself well before the trek in order to make it joyful and not suffer too much from muscle pain and other issues. Protect your knee caps and angles are the must-do. Since ABC is considered as not-too-hard trek without much altitude sickness but still it’s super physically demanding.

The trek to ABC is so beautiful with wonderful landscapes and mountain view. I definitely want to come back to do another trek around this area.

  • rating starThe best tour guide and porters to EBC

Our trip was supposed to go EBC and Gokyo Lake through Cho La Pass. Due to the bad weather for a few days, there were no flights to Lukla, we departed from Kathmandu by off-road car and then start to trek from Kharikhola to EBC. Our group faced many issues (rainy, snowy, cloudy, delayed flight). Luckily we have Raju - an excellent tour guide. He always thinks about the solution for many scenarios and gives us updated information every day. We feel safe when accompanying Raju and porters. We were very appreciative when Raju woke up early every morning to check the Mt. Everest view and then call us to see the view if not cloudy. For days to EBC we could not see Mt. Everest due to fog and cloudy. We were like brothers, and family, sang songs, danced together, enjoying so much fun. He also tells me many interesting things about Nepali life and culture. Good to know new friend Raju.

Highly recommend the Himalayan Recreation tour and the best Guider Raju Simkhada
